Finding Christmas

 My first graders  are learning about the true meaning of Christmas. They are so excited about this time of the year. 

1. We are working on The Christmas Story. The story that is found in the Bible in Luke 2.

2. I want them to learn about the joy of giving to others. I want our class to give toys for children who need someone to help them. 

3. We will be talking about how a community helps each other in many ways. 

4. I would like for each student to bring in a present for a boy or a girl. If you would like you may send in one for a boy and a girl. I would like all the toys to be brought in by Tuesday December 15.

5. If we are ordered to shut the school down, we will do Virtual Learning. I am in the process of making Lesson Plans for the students to learn at home on-line.  You will have a packet to pick up. I am trying to have the packets last for a couple weeks. 

6. We are having  a Christmas Party on Thursday December 17. I will let you know what to bring on Monday  December 14.

A Big Thank You

 Thank you for sending in the money for the Penny War. Our class is in Fifth place! I hope we can change that tomorrow! Please help our class to win the Grand Prize! 

I am very proud of my First Graders! They worked very hard during the first nine weeks. We will continue  to work hard to learn as much as we can in the first grade. 

Next Wednesday November 11, we will not have school. It is Veteran's Day. 

We will be learning about Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims. If your child would like to bring in a book about Thanksgiving, to share with the class. That would be awesome!

We will have "Show and Share" on Fridays. Please don't let your child bring anything that can't be replaced.

Fabulous First Graders

                    Fabulous First Graders

 The first nine weeks have been awesome!  I am so proud of my students, they are doing well. They have worked very hard on their Reading. I am so excited that they are enjoying English. They are doing a wonderful job writing sentences and writing in their Journals. We are having our Practice Spelling Test every Thursday. The class is doing an amazing job with school work. We are working on subtraction, Greater than and Less than in Math.  The class loves playing  Math games and Math problems on the board. They are working hard in every subject!! 

We will have "Show and Share" or "Show and Tell" on Fridays! Please make sure the students don't bring anything that is not replaceable. 

We are doing Operation Christmas Child again this year.  You can go to this link and you will find more information. Please help our school break our goal of  400 boxes. Let do all that we can do help children need a blessing from your child. Operation Christmas Child

Fall Fun

 

Reading Groups - We have completed the first book (Fun With Pets). I have the students on two different books: Tiptoes and Stepping Stones. Please complete the Reading that is assigned each night for the students to read. 

Math - Please continue to practice the Fact Families.  The flashcards for 1 & 2 will be in your child's folder. We will begin doing Number Houses in the classroom and if your child is struggling with counting and recognizing the numbers, I will be sending number houses for Homework. 

Spelling - The class is working hard each week to learning how to spell the words and use them in sentences. We will continue to have a Practice Test on Thursday. We will have a Test on Friday if it is needed. Thank you for studying the words each night with your children.

English - We have  started working with Adjectives. We continue work with Nouns, Verbs, and Adverbs  too. The student are enjoying learning how to use the Five Parts of a Complete Sentence. They are writing in their Journals each week.

History and Science - We will begin a new chapter in History on the Family; How God made the first Family and How families work together to have a home and serve God.

Science - We are continuing to learn about the Five Senses. We will be learning about how our Ears help us each day at school and at home. We will learn about the Nose, Tongue, and Skin. 

Please send water  to school with your child each day.

Fall Is on It's Way

 Fall Is Almost Here!

Please make sure your child has a jacket or sweater in their book bag. It gets very chilly in our room.

1. We will begin working on the 2 Fact Family on Monday, September 21, 2020. The class has worked hard on the 1 Fact Family and they know them very well.

2. The students are doing a great job with Reading. We will began a new book soon. Part of the class will have different books. Some are on a different reading level.  We are trying to give help those who need it. 

3. We will begin "Show and Share" next Friday, September 25, 2020.

4. Don't forget ice cream on Friday, it cost $1.50. 

Great Start To A New Year

 The first graders are doing an awesome job!

1. The students started the first week of Spelling. The students did an amazing job learning the words and taking the Test. 

2. We are learning about Nouns and Verbs in English. The class is enjoying learning about the boy name Quigley who didn't follow the rules at school. The students love to look at the English book and call it the Quigley book.

3. We are working on the One  Fact Family. They learning about odd and even numbers and greater than and less than. They love doing Math problems on the board and using the Unifix Cubes to compare numbers.

4. The class love going to the Specials. I think mot of them love PE the best until it's Art day.

5. Please send a light jacket or sweater for your child it is cold in our room. Don't forget the raincoat.

Fantastic First Graders

 Our first full week of school was great. The students had Art on Tuesday and they created a self portrait. On Wednesday they had Music, they practice songs that they will sing in Chapel. On Thursday we had Library time in our room. The students looked at books and I read books to them. On Friday the students will have PE, and coach Godfrey will teach the student how to play different types of games.

Please send a small jacket or a sweater for your child, our room is a little chilly. We have snack at 8:15, please send your child a snack.

We will have a Practice Spelling Test each week on Thursday. Please check your child's folder each day.

I hope that this will be an exciting learning experience for this class.
